Download Breaking Through the Silence: Key Issues and Recommendatins for Addressing HIV/AIDS Among Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders in the United States
Jointly developed by the National Alliance of State & Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD) and the Asian and Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF), this document specifically identifies key issues and recommendations that health departments and others can undertake to address the growing impact of HIV/AIDS among Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities.

Recommendations in the report include:
Strengthening data collection and reporting efforts;
Increasing health department and community awareness of the Asian American,
Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities and their HIV prevention
needs;
Considering opportunities to increase prioritization of Asian American, Native
Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities; and
Increasing the capacity of health departments and community based organizations
to address the HIV prevention needs of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and
Pacific Islander communities.

The Guide is a comprehensive resource that serves as a handbook for the provision of HIV prevention services. Included in the Guide are epidemiologic data; challenges, successes, and suggested approaches for reaching target populations; each type of intervention and their scientific basis; and resources for further information. The Guide also chronicles the past years of community planning and includes the guiding principles and goals of the community planning. The focus of this forum is to raise awareness about the on-going crisis of HIV/AIDS among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM). The satellite broadcast is also designed to promote greater understanding about the current issues related to HIV/AIDS risk among MSM and to encourage providers of HIV prevention services to implement effective interventions/strategies to reduce HIV transmission among MSM
