| This two-day workshop provides an introduction to counseling skills that are essential for effective HIV prevention counseling in a variety of settings, including community-based organizations and other venues. Participants learn about the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) counseling protocol and have opportunities to develop counseling skills in the context of HIV prevention. |

clinics, and STD clinics. ** |
This two-day workshop provides an overview of HIV antibody counseling, testing, and referral (CTR) services. It includes a description of the history of CTR services, HIV antibody testing algorithms, oral fluid collection, relevant statues, WI AIDS/HIV CTR objectives, program protocols, and data collection requirements, HIV care & treatment advances and community resources. In addition, the course is designed to build upon skills from previous workshops to support providers develop test decision counseling skills, give test results, and link consumers to available resources.
Registration is restricted to staff of agencies serving as publicly-funded HIV Counseling, Testing, and Referral (CTR) or HIV Partner Services (PS) testing sites. Persons wishing to register who are not directly associated with an HIV CTR or PS site MUST contact the WI HIV CTR Coordinator, Jim Stodola, at 608-261-9429.

HIV Partner Services (PS) Program: New Provider Training |

| ** Required course for WI AIDS/HIV Program Partner Counseling and Referral Services (PS) Program Providers. Audience: Only Wisconsin Local Health Department staff who are currently or intend to provide PS should register.

| This required two-day training for Wisconsin Local Health Department staff provides an opportunity for participants to gain the knowledge and skills needed to provide PS. The training provides an overview of the fundamentals of PS, including the principles behind PS and the policies and procedures followed by PS providers. The course provides a framework to examine ways to approach challenging counseling situations, including notifying sex and needle-sharing partners of their risk for HIV infection. Participants learn how to effectively refer and assist clients and partners in accessing needed health and support services. |
| PRE-REQUISITES: Currently employed by a local health department that is a designated provider of PS. Completion of the following three courses: Foundations for HIV Prevention in WI course, Basic Counseling Skills for HIV Prevention course, and HIV Counseling, Testing & Referral (CTR) Services Program New Provider Training course. |

Audience: Only for staff of Wisconsin agencies providing Rapid HIV Antibody Testing. ** |
| This one-day course trains HIV Counseling, Testing & Referral (CTR) staff in protocols, quality assurance, and counseling issues related to conducting rapid HIV testing with Stat-Pak. Participants learn detailed steps in conducting the test, how to integrate the test with other CTR activities, and how to develop systems to assure quality testing including the proper use of documentation and record-keeping. Participants complete a competency assessment by conducting the test and interpreting the result on six specimens. Participants also participate in role-plays to practice pre-test counseling, prevention counseling, and post-test counseling in the context of rapid testing. |
| PRE-REQUISITES: Participants should be affiliated with a CTR agency approved to conduct rapid testing by the Wisconsin AIDS/HIV Program. Approved agencies must have: A CLIA laboratory certificate allowing waived testing, bloodborne pathogen control plan, a designated staff overseeing quality assurance of rapid testing on-site, contact with Kathleen Krchnavek, HIV CTR Specialist (608-267-3583 or Kathleen.Krchnavek@wisconsin.gov) to provide documentation of the requirements listed above. In addition to learning about the current status of the HIV epidemic as it affects MSM, the workshop provides an opportunity to learn how individual, group, community-based, and policy level strategies can strengthen and support men who have sex with men, and the communities of which they are a part. |

| This one-day workshop provides HIV prevention service workers with an opportunity to increase knowledge and skills to more effectively provide HIV prevention services for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. It addresses differences among communities of individuals who are born deaf and those who acquire a hearing loss, especially with regard to language, culture and communication issues. Discussion focuses on using qualified interpreters effectively and appropriately. The course addresses issues related to HIV/AIDS in the deaf communities, and strategies to overcome barriers in providing culturally competent education, prevention, treatment and referral services. The workshop also provides an opportunity to try out various appliances and technologies to facilitate agencies’ abilities to serve the deaf community. |

CDC Satellite Video Conference Broadcast |

| The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) periodically provides satellite broadcasts on selected topics related to HIV/AIDS. The Wisconsin HIV Training System arranges sites in Wisconsin for viewing the broadcasts. Program topics are listed on the website http://www.wihiv.wisc.edu/trainingsystem when they are announced by CDC. The broadcasts can be viewed live or at a later date on computers with Internet and Real Player capability through the CDC website at http://www2a.cdc.gov/phtn. In addition, the Training System makes available for loan videotapes of the broadcasts. |

| These half-day refresher courses explain how to navigate and enter data into the Wisconsin AIDS/HIV Program’s new reporting system, "EvaluationWeb". Agencies are required to use EvaluationWeb to report on HIV testing activities and for quarterly reporting of prevention activities. Different training sessions are offered to focus on various interventions. The CTR session is for staff of designated HIV CTR sites. The HERR session is for staff from agencies providing individual, group, outreach, and capacity-building interventions, as well as PCM. |
